Adam Morrison led the nation in scoring as a junior, eclipsed the 30-point mark 13 times, and, thanks in part to that mustache, genuinely became a college basketball icon while leading Gonzaga to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

Still, he never did what Kyle Wiltjer did last Thursday night.

“I was just in the zone,” Wiltjer told the assembled media after a 45-point performance against Pacific that doubled as the highest-scoring game by a Zag in 54 years. He shot 15-for-22 on the night and even set the record for most points scored in a single game by Canadian in the NCAA this year. Xavier Rathan Mayes previously held the record with 35 points vs UNC.

Two nights later, Wiltjer finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds in a win at Saint Mary’s that secured yet another outright West Coast Conference title for Gonzaga.
