Brady Heslip is taking his talents to Minnesota!

Earlier this week the Burlington, Ontario native capped off an eye opening summer by inking an official NBA training camp deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Entering Minnesota camp in October speculation is that Brady is bound for the NBDL. However with JJ Barea’s future in Minnesota up in the air don’t be surprised if Heslip strangle holds that third point guard spot in Flip Saunders rotation at some point in 2014-15.

One thing we know for sure – this Grassroots alumni with beautiful shooting mechanics, will definitely make TONS of money playing the game of basketball.

Summary of Heslip’s Summer

-Participating in the Northern Borders Basketball League back home in Ontario, Heslip in a game registered 50 points, including a NBBL record 13 three-pointers.

-Utilized a T-Wolves NBA Summer League invitation and seized the moment. In his final two NBA Summer League games running the point for Minnesota, Heslip averaged 15.5 points per game and drained 7-of-his-10 three point attempts.

– Travelled three weeks across Europe with the Senior Men’s National Team. On four occasions Heslip led the Canadian squad in scoring. 14 points against Georgia, 16 points versus Croatia, 18 points on Serbia and a 22 point effort in the final game against Angola. He also scored 11 points versus #2-ranked country Spain.

– Parlayed strong showings in Las Vegas and through out Europe into an official NBA training camp deal.

Speaking with a Hoops Hype Canada correspondent, Heslip spoke about his stock rising summer and future prospects entering an NBA camp this fall:

Brady Heslip on his NBA Summer League Experience, the transition from college:

“Was an adjustment, just the days of practice and getting used to that level. Playing the point for me was a lot of fun. I just found a comfort level there and the coaches in Minnesota did an amazing job  just bringing me up to speed on how the NBA game kind of goes and things that I needed to do better. So for me to get those opportunities towards the end, where I got to play a lot of minutes was an amazing experience and I learned so much and it’s what I want to keep doing”

Brady Heslip on his experience travelling through Europe with the Canadian Senior Men’s National Team three weeks during this past summer:

“Anytime you get to play the international game it’s a great experience. You just get better every time playing and it’s against the best players in the world. For me every time I get a chance to represent Canada I’m going to. I’ve been with the national team for five years now and its just been amazing every single year. It’s such a great honor and playing with those guys is so much fun because we have so much in common and we don’t get to be around each other that much. I just took it as another audition for jobs, and just to get better and represent my country. That was a great three weeks as well.”

Brady Heslip on future prospects with Minnesota Timerwolves:

“Obviously making the NBA is my biggest goal right now, it’s been my goal since I was a kid. I’m just going into training camp with the mentality that I just want to learn as much as I can, have a great experience, play against some great players and obviously try to make the team but ultimately I’m just going to go in there, just be a sponge, learn as much as I can, work hard, try to get better every day and I believe everything will just fall in place”

All this for a 6’2 guard fresh off of a 26 win senior season with Baylor that included a Bears trip to the Sweet 16. Don’t bet against Brady. Every level he’s played on he’s been a proven producer. Just a kid form Burlington, Ontario one step closer to his child hood NBA dream.

Best wishes to Brady on his journey.
