And Then There With Two, Remaining Undefeated Canadians In NCAA
One week into 2015 and still four Canadian hoopers and their respective programs remain unbeaten.
A look at which four are undefeated and their future prospects to become the last program standing.
1. Trey Lyles/ Kentucky Wildcats
Likely First Loss: None
Other Potential Losses: February 7th @ Florida
After escaping Ole Miss in an 89-86 overtime home victory Tuesday, Kentucky is full steam on a 40-0 train. Their most difficult game was playing Louisville on the road in which they came away victorious. Wildcats are really starting to look unbeatable. But the ball is round and anything can happen, especially come tournament time. Trey Lyles hit two big shots and had a big offensive rebound late versus Ole Miss. Saskatchewan born Lyles is averaging 7.9 points and 5.6 rebounds per game in 20.9 minutes of action.
2. Marial Shayok/ Virginia Cavaliers
Likely First Loss: January 31st vs Duke
Other Potential Losses: February 2nd @ North Carolina, February 7th vs Louisville
Cavaliers also escaped a potential first loss when they defeated Miami last Saturday utilizing overtime. Powered by a stifling defense is no surprise with Tony Bennett patrolling the sidelines. However they have been surprising efficiently on offense. Always pretty tough to remain undefeated in the ACC. For the Cavaliers beating Miami was a good start. Starting January 31st they begin a three game stretch versus Duke, North Carolina and Louisville. Shayok has played in all 13 games this season, while averaging 4.8 points and 15.6 minutes per game — all of which top U.Va.’s other four first-year players.
