Montreal, QC’s Khem Birch is close to signing a training camp deal with the Miami Heat source close to his situation in Montreal told Hoops Hype Canada.

Miami Heat are close to signing Khem Birch to an official NBA training camp deal. Wizards, Clippers and Celtics were among others in pursuit of Montreal, QC’s pride and joy.

A Heat front court anchored by former Raptor Chris Bosh, recently acquired Josh McRoberts from Charlotte and long time Heattle Udonis Haslem could benefit from Khem’s addition. The Heat have made it known that they are looking to add younger, more athletic players to the roster instead of proven veterans like in years past. Khem Birch fits this bill quite nicely, seeing as he is only 21 years old and has not yet hit his peak abilities as a ball player. His potential also leaves a lot for Heat fans to be excited for over the coming seasons as a potential successor to 37 year old Chris ‘Birdman’ Anderson who like Birch is a defensive specialist but with age is physically on the decline.

Miami provides a perfect environment for Birch to solidify a spot in an NBA organization. With NBDL tutelage a possibility the circumstances in Miami could help his chances to eventually make the team by season’s end. Centers like Khem Birch can blend well with Miami head coach Eric Spolestra’s defensive principles.

Birch a Montreal native and both Brookwood Elite and CIA Bounce alumni turns 22 on September 28th. He went undrafted in the 2014 NBA draft after averaging 11.5 points per game, 10.2 rebounds per game and 3.8 blocks per game in 2013-14 for the UNLV Runnin Rebels. In June he played in the NBA summer league for the Wizards but after Washington invested some time on the young Canadian it looks like he will most likely land in Miami.
