Saturday Roddell Wigginton was instrumental in Buffalo University’s MAC title win over Central Michigan. Wigginton added 8 points and 6 rebounds for the Bulls who now carry an eight game winning streak in the Big Dance.

Wigginton who already has a JUCO championship under his belt became the fourth Nova Scotia native since the 21st century to win a NCAA conference title in his first season with Buffalo University.

Wigginton now a MAC title champion joined Corey Hallett (Central Michigan MAC champion in 2003), Bryson Johnson (Bucknell Patriot League champion in 2013) and Chris Johnson (St. Bonaventure A10 champion in 2012) as the only Nova Scotia natives and fourth in 12 years to play a part in a conference title.

Success on winning NCAA programs is only a small reflection of Nova Scotia hoops on the rise. Coming up the pipeline in the high school ranks the province form the east coast has North Preston, NS’s Lindell Wigginton (Oak Hill, VA) and Bedford, NS’s Nate Darling (DeMatha, MD) who are both playing in rotations of prestige prep programs respectively.

It’s official Nova Scotia is also known as the ‘Oceans Playground’ but it should start meriting attention for their basketball playgrounds too.
