Narain speaking with Hoops Hype Canada admitted it was a two way race between San Diego St and Gonzaga,

“Between the two schools San Diego State and Gonzaga I thought I would fit in perfectly at either or. At the end of the day it just came down to my comfortability with the coaching staff,” Narain said.

“The coaching staff one through four I built a great relationship with. All the coaches went to visit my parents back home in Canada twice. They just did all this stuff kind out of the ordinary that no other school did,” Narain told Hoops Hype Canada.

Narain who had close to twenty offers will play for 70 year old Azteks head coach Steve Fisher. Fisher has been with San Diego State since 1999 after previously coaching the Michigan Wolverines including their iconic “Fab Five” in 1991. When asked about how Fisher plans to include him in the fold Narain mentioned comparisons to a former Fab Five member,

“Coach Fisher compared my body type to Juwan Howard who he coached back with Michigan. I’m a player that’s very versatile and likes to shoot the ball. He says they give their bigs a lot of freedom to rebound the ball and push it. Also they see me as a big guy they’ll go through on the inside when running their offense,” Narain added.

With his sights set on Southern California for 2016, a decision to reclassify later this summer still remains a possibility,

“At the end of the AAU season were just going to weigh everything. See If I can qualify academically or If I want to do another year of high school. Still weighing all my options but it’s definitely a possibility,” Narain said.

Narain this spring travelling the AAU circuit with Stackhouse Elite UPLAY averaged 15.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game in eight contests. Through four games in Dallas at an adidas Gauntlet session Narain averaged 19.2 points per game on 51% (26/51) shooting from the field. Narain in recent years has also been a permanent fixture representing Canada on the international scene.

Trailblazing for Stackhouse Elite UPLAY Canada, Narain credited the development programs coaching staff, especially founder Duane Washington (his old high school coach) for his growth and development since ninth grade,

“When I first started my freshman year at Sir Allan MacNab I played for coach Washington. He’s always been a guy that’s developed and pushed me. Main thing was he believed in me and gave me a lot of freedom. It’s because of him I’ve become so versatile and have the confidence shooting and driving the ball,” Narain said.

Residing in Hamilton, Ontario since the sixth grade Narain is often touted as the biggest prospect to come out of the countries tenth largest city. He has also become the poster boy for Hamilton based AAU club Stackhouse Elite UPLAY Canada,

“The entire UPLAY staff has been super supportive of me from day one. It’s great to see them finally getting recognized with the whole Adidas thing. It’s an honor to see how far we’ve come and how were on the right track moving forward. Also the people in Hamilton have been super supportive of me and I can’t thank them enough for that.”

Narain and his 7’1” wing span will be a welcome addition to San Diego State in the Mountain West Conference. Whether its knocking down three-balls, 15-footers or working in the low post utilizing his length and energy, Narain is a high major stretch power forward with an excellent feel for the game who has all the tools to contribute immediately.
