Kitchener, Ontario native 6’5″ Jamal Murray (CIA Bounce/Orangeville Prep) was recently appointed the No.1 ranked talent in the Canadian class of 2016.

Wednesday evening interviewed by Scott Burgas of Scout.com; Murray usually reserved on his recruiting situation; tackled topics that many Canadian basketball fans have been curious about.

Murray on Summer of 2014:

“Summer time is really one of the most exciting times for basketball for me, Playing with Bounce you know Peach Jam and the circuit really helps me try new stuff and have confidence in it. With Team Canada it’s really all about discipline and timing. That helps a lot from running and executing plays properly to working the hardest as your leader on the floor and leading by example adds to my game.”

Murray on strengths of his game:

“I see myself as an all-around point guard, there’s going to be times where my team needs me to score and then there’s going to be times that I have to run the team and let the players play off of me. You know like the drive and kick game or dump offs. So I see myself as a point guard that can take over games. My height also gives me the advantage to make certain passes and to post up smaller guards.”

Murray on recruitment:

“I’m not trying to pay a lot of attention to that as of right now… A lot of schools have been calling though, but I’m not really letting it get to my head. I still have possibly another year of high school after this.”

Murray on reclassifying to 2015:

“It’s a possibility, but it’s too early for me to make that decision.”

Murray on who is recruiting him the hardest:

“Oregon, Mizzou, Michigan State, and Illinois I would say.”

At the 2014 FIBA U17 World Championship that took  place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) from August 8th to 16th, Murray averaged 16.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game, including 25 versus silver medalists Australia.

Murray has returned to play at Athlete Institute who recently changed their name to Orangeville Prep when 2015 blue chipper Thon Maker arrived in September.
