We rang the alarm back in May of 2014. Hoops Hype Canada warned the world about Canada’s newest kid on the block. His name is Rowan Barrett Jr and he is the son of former Canadian international and current Men’s National Team Vice President Rowan Barrett.

Speaking with www.heinnews.com about his son, Barrett Sr now approaching four years at his post with Canadian basketball had this to offer,

“He’s obviously young. 14 at this point. Showing some good early indicators from his size and length some of the normal things that you would want to chart and measure but again he is so young that it’s so difficult to talk about athletes at this age. Right now the focus is just does he enjoy the game? Does he have a passion for it? Is he willing to work for it? Those are some of the things that were focused on right now. Not just him but all of our young athletes that are in our junior academy. Just trying to lay the right foundation for them but he’s enjoying it so far and we’ll see what the future holds for him.” Mr. Barrett told Hien News.

Since graduating elementary school in June, this summer his sons status has gone legend with a sensational showing at the U15 Men’s National Championships. RJ Barrett led the tournament in scoring with 26 ppg and punctuated that feat with a 37-point performance in the championship game. 27 coming in the second half on route to setting the tournament high which included 128 games involving both 15U and 17U competitions. He also added 7.0 rpg and 62% shooting from the field. Let the accolades and accomplishments begin.

Rowan Barrett JRMultiple reliable sources have told Hoops Hype Canada that RJ will now take his talents to St. Marcellinus Secondary School in Mississauga. A move that has caused so much concern from other competing schools that the Ontario Federation of School Athletics Association and affiliate Region Of Peel Secondary Schools Athletic Association are reportedly imposing a four year ban that will not allow St. Marcellinus to compete in any OFSAA or ROPSAA sanctioned competitions.

Another talented Toronto prospect barred from competing in the countries toughest high school circuit. As if the astronomical figures of players going south for prep wasn’t bad enough. Time for the OFSAA teachers to stand up and re-evaluate the “transfer rules” so that everybody can utilize transferring players to benefit high school basketball in Canada. Tons of kids approach programs and they have to turn many away because of a silly sit out rule. The latest the ultra talented Rowan Barrett Jr.

Father Rowan Sr declined to comment about his sons school situation, so have St. Marcellinus administration.
